Please join Penn’s Department of History for a special event with Jamelle Bouie, Columnist for the New York Times and former political analyst for CBS News. Bouie’s presentation, written on the occasion of the 2026 Semiquincentennial, is called “Reconstruction at America250: History and the Future of U.S. Democracy.”

Listed on the Forbes “30 Under 30 in Media” list in 2015, Jamelle Bouie has established himself as a leading voice on the national scene. His commentary focuses on politics, policy, and race relations. Among analysts, Bouie is distinguished for his deep engagement with history and the historical profession. In 2022, he was inducted into the Society of American Historians, and in 2025, he won the Tikkun Olam Prize for Promoting Public Historical Literacy from the American Historical Association.
