The William Adger & Ida Elizabeth Asbury Welcome Ceremony is an annual convocation hosted by UMOJA at the University of Pennsylvania to welcome incoming Black first-year and transfer students.

Rooted in the themes of community, belonging, and empowerment, the event introduces students to the cultural, academic, and professional networks within Black Penn. It features remarks from student leaders and faculty mentors, including Dr. Brian Peterson and Dr. Charles Howard, and includes interactive elements such as a time capsule, photobooth, and networking sessions with upperclassmen. The ceremony creates a supportive space where new students feel affirmed, connected, and equipped to thrive at a predominantly white institution.
