Thrive at Penn (TAP)

Thrive at Penn (TAP) is an online program that assists students with their Penn experience. TAP prepares students to make healthy choices during their university experience and provides information about resources available to support student success. Topics covered include thriving at a research university; wellness and health; the risks associated with alcohol and other drugs; healthy relationships and sexual violence prevention; and resources specific to your needs during all of your years at Penn.

When do I have to complete TAP?
At your own pace, you’ll be asked to complete this mandatory program in three phases: Phase One: virtually prior to New Student Orientation (NSO), Phase Two: in-person during NSO, and Phase Three: post-NSO during the first week of courses. Here are the launch and due dates for each Phase of TAP for the Class of 2028:

PhaseGoes LiveDue Date
OneAugust 1August 16
TwoAugust 21August 26
ThreeAugust 27September 1

How do I know if I completed all the requirements of TAP?

  • During Phase One: Your grade must be 80% or higher on your Assignments (which breaks down to a minimum score of 24 out of 30 in Phase One). To verify your score, click on the Grades link in the left column. If you do not have higher than 80%, you can click on the quiz and retake it.
  • During Phase Two: Your attendance is required at the mandatory NSO events.
  • During Phase Three: Submission of the NSO Survey.

What happens if I don’t finish TAP?
A registration hold is put on your student record and you’ll be unable to register for your Spring 2025 courses for the Class of 2028.

Upper-level Students

Although TAP is only mandatory for your first year, throughout your undergraduate career, TAP will be a platform for relevant information specific to your needs during your remaining years at Penn. Please find the specific TAP program for your class below.
